The Esker Project

The Purple Hand Champaign is an initiative that was inspired by countries experiencing conflict, where women came together and displayed a hand in their window, with the aim of informing other women that they could gain help and support at that particular place.

Esker House founded the Purple Hand Champion Campaign in 2024. We currently have over 400 Purple Hand Champions across 50 organisations. It is our goal to create as many safe spaces in our community that are identified as safe spaces to access information about supports available to women and children subjected to domestic abuse and violence.  We are offering businesses, organisation and groups in the midlands the opportunity to participate in training that will allow them to recognise and respond to DVA appropriately.

Once this training is completed the company will be awarded a Purple Hand to display within their business or service. This will alert the community that they are a Purple Hand Champion, and the establishment of a safe space for women to gain support and information regarding DVA.

The Hopes for this initiative is to create a zero tolerance response to DVA within our community. It aims to prove to perpetrators there is no where to hide and DVA is not tolerated in our community. The success of this work will be reliant on the engagement of our community, stakeholders and supporters.
