16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence 2024

Each year from 25^th November to 10^th December the United Nations runs a campaign of international activism called 16 Days of Activism to Against Gender-Based Violence .

These days are dedicated to raising awareness, challenging cultural norms and inspiring change. The campaign kicks off on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and runs until Human Rights Day. Across the globe, people take part in events and initiatives, but what about here in the Athlone? How can we engage and support those affected by gender-based violence? More importantly, how can we contribute to ending it?

Esker House will be running a number of events throughout these 16 days in an effort to engage further with the community and make ourselves more visible to the community as a domestic abuse support service, so that women and children who may be in need of support can reach out to us.

We will be in Athlone Town Centre on the 25^th of November and Golden Island Shopping Centre on the 26^th of November holding our flag days.

We will have a campaign with Athlone Library, where the library will display books on domestic abuse throughout the 16 Days of Activism.

We will be in TUS Athlone on the 28^th of November hosting a short information session where attendees will learn how to recognise domestic abuse and refer.

We will be holding a drop-in clinic in Clonbrusk Primary Care Centre on the 3^rd December between 10am-12pm where anyone can drop-in and speak to a member of our team to get support or information.
